It's a fantastic piece of engineering that not only takes brilliant pictures, but actually looks like a work of art. That, the 85L, and the 50L f/1 are my dream lenses.

I saw a local with one on craigslist for $3500 a couple of years back that he claimed was mint. One seller had a 50mm f/1.0 that he had used two or three times and stored in its original box for years. $5000 was too much for me. I think he eventually sold it for less, but I passed on it.

It took me about 6 mos to find a used ET-123 on ebay, but I found one in good condition for about $200. There's an aftermarket one available for about $290 - maybe worth considering??
There is a enhanced 3rd-party ET-123 hood. I think someone here might be interested.

Yes very rare. I managed to get one from KEH a couple of years ago, the nibs on mine were not holding the hood tightly. Even some of the nibs on the KEH one were not 100% but between the two I was able to take some from my original and some from the KEH and get one fully functional hood.
By the way everyone, Canon Parts Dept in NJ supplied me with screws and nibs to repair my hood twice.
Just call them up, you don't even need the part number, they look it up.

I met a pro photographer to buy some lenses a couple weeks ago. I bought 2 off him and he asked me to test the 200m 1.8 with me knowing what it was. These pictures were taken at a Home Depot in New York, through a plate glass store front, without a tripod, in a rush to get back to work.
I took one picture and told him I had to run, when he tried to upsell me on it. I didn't realize until I got home what I was holding on to. Thought it was a random telephoto.
He has not returned my calls.

I think if you do best offer they'll take like 270.
Well, for someone who really needs a new functional ET-123, this is the only alternative option. I used to spend $400 for a discontinued drop-in CPL, so I can accept their price.
