Switching systems is a huge PITA. For the sports and equestrian stuff I mostly do I don't see anything in the Nikon/Sony lineup that entices me. If I was a dedicated landscaper maybe a D800 with 14-24 would be more compelling but other then that I just don't see it.

I think the premise was if we started from scratch. I do prefer the default color output from Canon and if I shot jpeg only I would keep Canon.
Hypothetically speaking, if your gear would be stolen from you once a year and you'd get the money from the insurance, would you switch each year?
My head says mirrorless, as photography is no longer a constant source of income to me and having a 1-series body with two f/2.8 L zooms is just not economical. Unfortunately there isn't a totally compelling mirrorless system around just yet (if only Samsung NX, Sony NEX and Fuji X lenses had all been interchangeable!..) though with the latest additions the Sony NEX is getting closer, especially with A-mount lenses being fully adaptable (most likely I would've picked a tele lens from that stable since the E 55-210 mm just isn't compelling enough...
My heart says Sony A, though it likely means having to go FF which I don't really want.
My gut says Canon - which I have now - since I'm familiar with their stuff, and also, nobody else makes/made 1.3x crop bodies.
I voted Sony just to help the underdog in the polls.
