I guess I'm in the minority in that I find the blowing out to be very distracting in all the images. The eye will naturally gravitate to the brightest spot in any image first, which in these images is never the subject. The only one where it sort of works is the second one where the eye must travel to the darkest spot by virtue of the composition. It also seems like the white balance is off -everything is very orange although that could just be my monitor.

I disagree... I know that's what the photography books say, but in practice, my eye did not gravitate toward the brightest spot.

As the primary, I am not concerned about the processing. I only care about the content of the photos. And the content is pretty good in most of the frames.
I swapped out the orig images for ones with slightly different color. Turns out I had lost some of my color settings from the last time I dealt with this sort of color tint. They are all now too hot and I did not correct them, but I am still interested if they look better.
Ah man... #2... I really wish you could clone in the makeup artist's hand with a brush or something. Otherwise, it's really just a picture of a smiley girl.
It's pretty much all been said already. I personally lean toward b&w for a lot of the getting ready stuff like this. Also, start charging. You're good enough to at least make a few bucks second shooting.

Right now I am doing it for free because I have personal gear/liability insurance. If I can keep improving, I will get business gear/liability insurance for 2013 and start asking for some payment. Hopefully, by then I will have shot for enough people that want me to keep shooting for them.

But I like smiley.... You are right, it would be nice to have more context. I rarely remember to show context Its a work in progress Thanks for the pointers!
