Thank you, Jerry and Shreeni.
However, you must know that these are pretty much routine shots, not very difficult at all with almost any gears, with just a bit of practice, and having the opportunity.
When I finally get a real good DIF shot some day, I will let you know.
Peter, that pijun is winking at you, following you as you pan your stunt Drake...so many secrets
That's a fantastic capture, as Db mentioned the sharpness, feather detail is great, love the beads of water streaming down his body; aerodynamics at their best!
This image is without a doubt a keeper!
Thanx, Db, that is a minor crop, perhaps 20%
800L is the last liked BIF lens in my modest colection, and today has been the first time I've used it on 1DX to shoot flyers.
I mean, for more distant and large, slowish birds such as geese, herons, eagles, etc. it's OK, but for small fast and close fyers, the lens is plain awkward, particularly if shooting on the full focusing distance limiter setting.
However, 1DX does drive the lens a fair bit better than 1DMkIIN/1DsMkII, and I suspect the primary reason for that is in a good handling of extreme defocus which 1DX has got.

Thank you, Jerry, I am not unhappy with that image although the light on the bird was more frontal than sidewise....that way the the head iridescence has not ignited, nor the best colours/detail on the bird shown. I am going out again now to try some more....should have a better sunlight incidence angle.

As one that shoots landscapes, this particular image really appeals because of the slight shadows; just back of the head, the darker neck area and light shadows under the leg, tail area. I'll be interested to see the non frontal lighting of your next images. Hope you get the side lighting you need

Sorry, Jerry, the only living thing that flew this afternoon were white Peregrines.
Here's one for you: handheld 1DX + 800L.
What really stands out for me in your images, not dismissing the pijuns; the subject in focus, are the incredible backgrounds, the bokeh, produced by your big white glass, particularly the 800L, they are simply incredible.
And, while your 1DX images are beautiful, even at insanely high ISO, it's images from your 1DMkIIN at lower ISOs that just...give me that WoW feeling.
Keep warm, sure hope you catch those last few remaining flyers, seems winter is closing in on you!
Jerry
