p.1 #1 · Antelope Light Beams

My first trip to Antelope Canyon. What a paradox of beauty and chaos! Anyway – thanks to FM’ers advice I went with Carol Bigthumb’s Adventurous Antelope Tours and they do a marvelous job of crowd control for their photo-centric tours. Without the crowd control this would have been an exercise of frustration.

I decided to shoot wide only so I went in with 2 bodies with a 14mm and 21mm/CP respectively. Here are my favorite light-beam shots.

Hey Dave,

What a very nice assortment of sun beams in these. You did a good job, and I am glad you were able to get them without too much hassle. #1 and 4 are my favorites, though I would crop off the top part of #4, the sky in it, you did a good job trying to take care of the burnt out area, but it still looks a little off. Just lose it, go to a 4:5 format on that shot if you have to.

A super set Despite going on a photo-tour (not Carol Bigthumb's) two years ago I had a very frustrating time (or lack of it!) plus tripod problems in the Upper Canyon - but got some reasonable shots in the Lower Canyon - I would love to go back and have another go but the domestic authorities say there are too may other places to visit.

Agree with Jim's comments on #4, it actually makes the comp better/balanced

Really nice set of photos. Love #1 with its broad horizontal view.....gives a whole different perspective to the big room.

Agree with crop change on #4.

Jonathan - thanks. I'm partial to #3 as well.

Gene - thanks. I'm really glad I brought in the 14mm as it gave a good landscape perspective to Antelope.

Jim/Dan - thanks for taking the time for some great feedback. So I spent a little more time with this pic - brought it into PS for some more tweaking and gave it a 4x5 crop. I like it - thanks!
