Isn't Sony partnered with Zeiss for things like lenses? If I were Zeiss, I'd be less than happy with a Sony-Leica tie in. Not that Zeiss can dictate what Sony does, and corporate alliances are often overlapping. Plus the RX1 is nipping at Leica's heels...
It's been said - and demonstrated - over and over again that Sony's sensor division will sell sensors to whomever has the $$ and is willing to buy them - whether it's Nikon, their own camera division or whoever. They do not necessarily consider what would be strategically best for Sony's camera division.

It won't be a Sony sensor.. pretty sure it's going to be a CMOS sensor from the company which bought the Kodak fab.

That would be a pity, but not the end of the world. Sony currently makes the best sensors, period. Why not take advantage of that?
Probably because when you're a niche player buying maybe 30,000-50,000 units over the period of ~3 years, it's likely easier to find a partner willing to create a custom product for you if they're also a niche player who will value the business. Whatever Leica's total sensor buy is until the next Photokina, it's probably equivalent to what one of the major brands does in a month (or less).

Well, they provided the optimized sensor for the GXR-M. How many pieces did the GXR-M sell worldwide? Not many me thinks.
Sony has a brand spanking new EVF which will fit in a standard hotshoe, wonder if Leica has signed on to support Sony's new hotshoe interface, it could easily co-exist alongside Leica's regular flash dedication for backwards compatibility and if done right Leica could get support for the far more capable ADI flash system as well as the EVF.
More likely though would be continued support for Olympus's accessory port, a far less elegant solution than what Sony's come up with on the A99/RX1/NEX-6

Or Olympus might even move to the Sony system since they are jointly working together on some camera stuff now.

i'm sure leica would rebrand it and charge even more just as they did with the oly one.

Don't forget its the M system, not just some compacts or a X1 or 2.
Sure its gonna be terrible expensive, and the internals arn't leica's, But I don't think they simply going to put a plastic re branded olympus or sony EVF on top of their M series.
Alu or brass housing just like the OVF's, painted in the M10's colors (hope silver chrome @ black chrome, black paint for the M10.2

good points. i wonder if sony actually put the rx1 one finder in a matching magnesium shell rather than just painting it black and thats the reason for the $200 mark up over the NEX finder. hopefully the markup has more to do with the finder optics (i'll be pissed if it's just for the color).
Maybe there's nothing to leak at all, it sounds like when the Monochrome one was going to be announced. There was a lot of speculation, but it wasn't a blast, like many thought it would be.
Maybe I'll be here editing my post tomorrow, out of pride, who knows....

I'd imagine that Ricoh did the optimization. Plus, it is the rather outdated 12mp sensor in both the GXR and X100, rather than the 16mp sensor, or even the 14mp of the NEX-5. I wonder if Sony sold old stock to them??
As far as I understand, Ricoh designs the optimization, offset micro-lenses, CFA specs, IR filter thickness and material, lack of AA... etc, but it's Sony that implements it. By the way, the 12 mp sensor may be outdated, but the performance is outstanding. The pixel density does correspond to 30mp in FF. So it may be old stock, but it's aged wine
If the M10 offers ~24MP, useable ISO of 6400, a modernized UI and costs under $8k, I'm walking to my local Leica dealer tomorrow and slapping a down payment on the table. My glass itches for a new digital M to attach to.

Yeah, but from those I've talked to who own both the GXR and NEX, the GXR is a little noisier, although that could just be down to the lack of AA. Either way, Sony hasn't used the 12mp sensor in their own cameras for a while, which is why I'm guessing they could have unloaded stock on 3rd parties.
