p.3 #1 · Great Deal for Long Alt Lovers Rokkor 400 APO

I finally pulled the mount off the broken SH and its holes line up frustratingly close to the 400's holes (the holes on the lens are a fraction of a mm closer to the center than the holes on A mount). It's thinner than the 400's mount and I'm a little worried about redrilling the holes and not leaving enough lip. Any suggestions on the best way to make this work?

Oh, and as to the C/Y mount from Leitax... the C/Y mount on my 300/4 has a larger overall diameter than the 400, to the point where I'd have to shave off the little plastic piece that overhangs the mount in order to center the replacement.

I wonder if a Leica R Leitax might work. It's got a couple of extra holes, but the pattern might be a better fit. And I've got an extra one to try that's actually chipped for 400/4. I'm not sure why I didn't think of this sooner.

Well, the Leica R holes are in the same place as the Alphas. But the R adapter sits on the lens like it was made for it. The SH mount doesn't have enough of a lip for that. And it will be easier to drill out the R adapter because it's so much thicker. The downside being that it's so much thicker.

cool! if there's plenty of throw past infinity it should be fine, otherwise start trying to figure out how to tune infinity.

if you want the recessing of the screwhead to be flat like the originals rather a sloped countersink you might consider using an end mill rather than a standard drill bit.

It's hard for me to tell how much past infinity I can focus since I'm using an adapter on the NEX right now that was shimmed for infinity on the 28/2. Right now, it looks like plenty, but we'll see how it goes on the a99. I'll start with the Leica R since it will be easier to drill, but if I end up with a 400 macro, I'll probably try the Alpha. I can't feel anything under the rubber grip, so I'm not sure if there's an adjustment screw there or not and there's very little information about the lens that I can find on-line.

I am going to have to counter sink somewhat deeply on the Leica if I don't want to have to find longer screws, but none of my dad's mill bits are small enough, so it looks like there's a trip to Home Depot in my near future.
