How is the price differential against an M9 in terms of %, is it the same % difference to get an M9 as it is in the US?

M9 is 8360$, M9P is 9050$.

Oh, dear Lord, the *hood* is $179...

I think this camera is aimed at the Chinese noveau riche with money to burn and a deep desire to buy status symbols...

The size looks acceptable to me, I will have to try one out.

As for external VF I love my Voigtlander zoom finder.

It works flawlessly from 16 to 35.

why does the fuji x series look like old rangefinders? because it sells.

I just ordered a 49mm hood - $5 shipped on a boat from China.

I'd probably consider the Voigtlander mini finder if I bought this camera. Link

Now if someone wondered why a 35F2 in this size would be hard to fit through an E-mount - check the size of that rear element, sitting just a few mm's in front of the sensor surface... :-)

That's unbelievably small!!!!

I like the zoom finder because I can use it on a variety of cameras and lenses, instead of buying dedicated ones. The Zeiss finders are optically the best, but they are made of very scratch prone soft kind of plastic, probably acrylic, and they fit too tightly on the hotshoe which makes difficult to remove.

I have to think that would be one expensive lens to both design and build. That unique lens probably contributes the most to the RX1 cost of manufacture.

I would think both the zoom and mini finders have a much, much lower magnification factor than the Zeiss (given it's size). Do we know the magnification factor for the Zeiss 35 finder? I'm not sure if a 35 version was offered previously.

I think this is one of the things I like about Sony. They don't force you to buy new batteries for every time a new camera comes out unlike Canon or Nikon. All the Nex models still use the same battery.

The BP-511A battery that Canon has used worked for: Canon ZR10, ZR20, ZR25, ZR30, ZR40, ZR45, ZR50, ZR60, ZR65, ZR70, ZR80, ZR85, ZR90, Optura 10, 20, Pi, Xi camcorders and PowerShot G1, G2, G3, G5, G6, Pro 1, Pro 90 IS, EOS 5D, 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D, D30, D60, Digital Rebel digital still cameras.

Definitely. I just wanted to let people know about a smaller option.

Awsome video! I guess it's definite that the screen is fixed and doesn't tilt then.

Yep, bummer on the no tilt LCD. At least the EVF has tilt.

As excited as I am in this camera's potential, there seem to be a lot of little things that bug me enough to stay away from it, considering the price. As amazing as the lens looks, I still prefer a little bit longer single focal length, so I'm doing my best not to jump on board with this sweet little RX1. Oddly, I'm almost as excited about the fact that Sony finally brought a 35mm prime for NEX, which will probably keep my NEX-7 around for a while.

The magnification on the zoom finder is effectively much lower. The view on the Zeiss is simply sublime. The zoom finder however is much more practical, and it helps me find the right lens to use simply by zooming in and out.

What I have not heard mentioned yet about the RX1 is control layout. It would have made a lot of sense for Sony to have a shutter speed dial on top.

Good point Tariq. Aperture and shutter controls available outside the LCD/menu system, especially for a viewfinder-less camera, is my preference, like the X100.

If the camera had an integrated EVF, adjusting to not having a dedicated, marked, shutter speed dial would be easy. Yet as I do shoot in aperture priority mode the lions share of the time, I'd likely adjust when using such a camera, even if I used one of my optical finders. Having the exposure comp dial featured on the top deck is, for me, definitely the right compromise if real estate precluded both.

Or I'd get the EVF, as Sony probably expects many to do.

After sleeping on the prospect I'm again thinking this could be a camera I'd buy. The price doesn't seem hugely out of line except for that it is a fixed lens camera. I'd rather pay another $500 - $1,000 for an ILC FF system camera.

Images from this camera, we need images.

By the way, the GXR has a very nice feature in M mode. It sets the shutter speed automatically like in aperture priority if I push the +- button. It allows me to work in M all the time. Not sure if the Sony cams have a similar feature.

Wow, I don't visit the thread for a couple days and it balloons to 31 pages! The RX1 must have struck a nerve. What did I miss?

Yes, the camera is almost impossibly small, isn't it? Very impressive piece of engineering, but I would have preferred a built-in EVF, which would be more compact than this plus a bolt-on EVF if you're like me and plan to have the EVF on at all times. I also still feel that $2800 + another $500 or so for an EVF is a tough pill to swallow, so I'll just live vicariously through those that can afford it.
