All joking aside, I think the industry is getting flooded with new blood and the overall quality will fall with pricing to match. The declining cost of 35mm DSLR equivalents with the increasing amount of units available to public means that Canon, Nikon, Sony, and all of the other manufacturers are making more money from consumers/prosumers/professionals. Trends also seem to be the "hot" thing right now with "trash the dress", "first look", "first light", "Glam shoot", "Hollywood shoot", and "creative post processing" among others. What will always stay the same are timeless photos, good post-processing (from those photographers), pricing on "art" photographers, physical albums, film photography, and the general thinning of the industry due to attrition. The economy isn't going anywhere right now and I think that will affect photographers that don't offer enough "perceived value".

You might want to read up on your wedding photography history. Candid wedding photography didn't start until after WWII. It came about because of a surge of weddings, former photo G.I.'s needing a job and new technology, mainly practical color printing and smaller (Rollei) cameras.. It was the perfect storm.
