What are some of your recommendations for home wireless signal boosters/extenders ?
My router is in my downstairs bedroom. I have a garage office where the signal is weak.
I was using an older Linksys range extender stand alone unit sitting on a refrigerator in
my garage closer to the garage/home wall. The unit died and im looking for a replacement.
Any suggestions ? I want it to be stand alone unit which picks up the router signal, amplifies
it and sends it out to my garage office pc antenna.

add tin foil to the antenna of the router in shape of cylinder and point it towards the area you wan to amplify.
It also works wonders with rabbit ear antennas for TVs.
A close friend had a problem of insufficient wi-fi signal at his second home, out in the country, getting an adequate wi-fi signal between the main house to a guest cottage. I researched repeaters, this one had high recommendations, he bought it and I installed it for him. Works well
I prefer to use either a router that has repeater functionality (a lot of new ones do) or an older router which can sometimes turn it into a repeater with free firmware like WW-DRT or Tomato. The router can sometimes be cheaper than a dedicated repeater (free if you have an old one) and can also be used as a wired switch to connect additional devices (printers, disks, AV recievers, game consoles, etc) that need a wired connection.
