Thought I would chime in and say thank you for posting these pics. I travel to Russia quite a bit...both in the west and the very Far East. For whatever reason, I love that country...the people and the history anyway. The interesting thing about these pics, (if i remember from your previous post, these were taken in the late 80's?) is that for the most part, not much has changed! The big cities has seen a fair bit of change, but it's a mix of the old and new which has a very unique contrast.

Of course, a six-week tour of the USSR hardly qualifies me as an expert. And yet, one sees what one sees. And because of the spirit of glasnost (openness) at the time, our Russian guides were often very candid, i.e. "We pretend to work and the government pretends to pay us."
It was a good experience for me.
