You can probably check it out, apparantly according to the(Nikon list) there is a photo of it in your (USA) Pop Photo March issue.

Pop Photo are denying the 28-200mm f2.8 rumour, stating that the lens they featured is a new 70-210 VR.
Guess we will have to wait another 10 days.

If this lens would be AFS than it might be a breakthough. As far as we know today the VR and silent wave use the same contact.

Unfortunately Nikon also has to compete with lenses like the Canon 400mm DO IS.

Funny you asked that.
PMA is now over and it seems like the new Nikon lens is the 70-200mmVR.
However, I have a copy of March 2002 "Popular Photography", and it mentions the new 28-200 f/2.8VR THREE times. (Hard to believe it was a typo)...

IMO, if this lens were for real, it would be full of design compromises.
