p.1 #1 · New to me D3; spot metering icon not displaying.
Just picked up a demo D3 with less than 19,000 clicks. Body is perfect, looks brand new. Full warranty as well. I think I got a pretty good steal. U.S. version bought at my local Nikon authorized retailer.
I haven't played with it too much yet but have noticed when I put it on spot metering (which I use most of the time) the icon in the view finder shows matrix metering. Once while shooting I noticed the spot metering icon show up but now it's back to matrix.
Is there some kind of override I'm missing or should I get it checked out?

It's been awhile since I had my D3, however it sounds like a bad metering mode switch - mine had the same problem. You can set one of the programmable buttons to activate spot-metering (overriding the switch) as a work-around, but I don't think that's what's going on here.
