So last night the unspeakable happened.... I was pulling my gear out of the van, and the D800 with my 50mm f/1.8 hit the ground! CRAP!
Thank god... she's all good. Only a scuff on the lower right corner of the body, but the hot shoe hit the pavement, and bent in a little bit... I took some needle nose pliers and bent it back in line so I could mount a flash, and all seems to be functioning just fine. Thank god it didn't fall from that far... but my god - I am going to be a lot more careful from now on with her.
By the way - I have dropped just about every camera I have ever owned ... and even ripped the mount off of a D70 once. So this was only a matter of time given my history....
Anyhow - I checked focus, and all is still good...
Count workerdrone in the club as of yesterday, picked up a NIB D800 for basically $2400, so far just feeling my way around and testing but I love this thing....I see another $600 or so in grip, L bracket, and memory cards bringing me up to suggested retail but what a machine!
Wanted to hold out for a used D800e owner with buyer's remorse but it could've taken a looooong time
Just spent an hour or so this AM calibrating my glass, haven't really checked anything but the center focus yet but my copy consistently front focused just like my D7k - results

Trying to get my head around the SD/CF card specs, I think I will just go with a few reasonably fast 32 gig cards since I almost never shoot bursts
