Said differently, is the design/construction/build good enough that you are comfortable buying used? Or, would you recommend buying new for the warranty protection?
Having asked that, I've used the JrX's for about a year with no hiccups whatsoever. Thinking about upgrading to PX.
I have 6 of them, 4 rx, 2 tx. I had 2 of them go bad on me after a bit. Radiopopper was great about it, and while they knew that I had bought them used, did me a solid favor and replaced them with new in box units for a small fee. Even after that, I paid less than buying them new straight up.
However, later on, I bought a new unit during a sale they had, and when I tried to get it to work with my Nikon flashes, it randomly would only work with my SB900, not the 800s or 600.
I've since gone onto Pocketwizard Flex units.
Honestly, much as I liked the RP units at the time, in retrospect, the "bracket" design, the slave design of it needing to work with a commander unit, etc, just makes it seem a little half baked. I do like that they are "universal" for nikon and canon since I have flashes from both.
But, if you get a good deal, I admit they have their place.
the PW hypersync only works to a certain extent, and it's meant more for strobes with a long tail (flash duration).
However, the ControlTL system does improve on the camera's built in high speed sync (fp sync for nikon). And I will say for that, it's a great system. I personally like using my flashes in manual mode, but even there, the AC3 unit really works very well.
