John: #3 is my favorite from this set. I think the color adds a bit of life to the image, and I like pelican in the perched position. I don't think the surfer adds a lot--just doesn't seem to mesh well with the subject to me (and the pose is not adding a lot for me). Just my $0.02 (but may only be worth $0.01).

I included the surfer to add another element. She looks like she is looking at the lighthouse.
Hard to tell I know, the pelican is actually taking off. It's the same one as in the 2 color shots. I was waiting for water action and did a quick shot when I noticed it spreading it's wings.
