2 and 3 are fantastic, and I like 4, but 1 isn't doing it for me. It looks like a composite, especially without his feet to ground the shot like the others have.
Not to say that it's poorly done, or that he won't like the picture.
Good stuff Phil, giving us a lot of different looks of late. 3 is quite nice. Maybe seeing his eyes in 1 would help, feels like the timing is off. He's gonna love the composite work.
That last one (stand alone) is AMAZING.... LOVE IT!
The first one however, is confusing.... why is he the only one on the field? Is he screaming or laughing? What is he looking at? It seems to be an open roof stadium yet he is "sandwiched" in light... it just doesn't do anything for me because I can't seem to connect with the image in any way. Maybe some background on the image would help.
IMHO, that first image would have been much cooler if you Layered him OUTSIDE of the stadium where it would look like he is leaning over into it .... like he was some crazy football GIANT - then (for me at least) it would be the most awesome high school sports image Ive ever seen.
With regard to the open roof stadium. I'm not really trying read too much into it.
Open stadiums project light all around them. I've seen the shadows on the field. Who's he yelling, laughing at? Maybe someone he just smacked down on their ass while they tried to tackle him.
Trust me. The senior isn't looking at it from that perspective
We' re just getting started on these anyway. I let the retouchers do their thing.
I wish someone would tell me why so many do the same 'look' (post work / composites / hdr-ish / pushed lighting /etc) in sports photography. Is it you feel it looks 'exciting' ? What is it ? It seems if everyone is doing it, you would want to do something different. I am NOT being argumentative or putting anyone down . . . I'm just curious.
