The 7D MKII rumor was very popular for the past 18 months until Canon recently rained on our parade with a major 7D FW update in the next or two. Of course, maybe that was a smokescreen to throw the rumor mongers off the scent...

sirmiri -- That's funny how people can have such opposite views on gear! Unlike you, I love the 60D and find it the best APS-C Canon has made so far, at least as my needs go. I prefer it over the 7D, even though the 7D is more sophisticated and has a better processor.
Crop frame is my least favorite format, so that plays into it as well -- I don't want to invest a lot in the system. But I'll say the 60D has never failed me on an assignment, unlike the Nikon D7000 did a couple times. So, I stay loyal to what helps me. For me, the 60D (and T2i before that) was a reawakening of my interest in the format.
I'd like to see the next iteration blend the attributes of the 60D and 7D, in a more sophisticated, yet affordable package. It seems we could have the Rebels, then move to a semi-pro model, then the full frame offerings. A better AF and move to 24MP would keep the line viable against other brands.

My opinion is that the effects of the tsunami have impacted many of the standard release cycles, so historical replacement time frames may not be applicable in some cases.

Gunzo, it's absolutely true - everybody has different needs and wants, and that's one of the hazards of the market for a company like Canon. What do we include? What do we leave out? For me, it was the stated reasons above and that fact that I'd never want to use the 60D above 1600 ISO because the output wasn't to my liking.
But the tilt screen. live view plus the in-camera processing were great additions compared to the 40D I'd sold, to get the 60D.

Tilt screens in particular, I am fond of.
I agree completely! I don't like to push any camera beyond 1600, but get very good results with the 5D2 at 1600. The 60D is marginal, but acceptable, at 1600 for my taste.
The next 60D/7D will need a Digic 5 (or 6!), higher rez sensor, better DR, better AF (5D3 trickle-down).
Like you, I think the 60D video, LV, tilt screen/rez (and menu) are terrific features.
Put all that in a sturdier 7D-ish chassis, and we have a winner for top APS-C body.

Take it for what is worth, I guess basically nothing, just trying to make friends and be part of this community.
I guess maybe I was wrong to post it, sorry!

7D is out 3 years come September, so must be getting close for upgrade, but given the nature of the massive 2.0 FW, I don't think it will upgraded before PMA next year around February. Maybe they are debating whether crop camera should get 5D III AF
60D might still get upgraded first as they probably sell a lot more. The Rebels get upgraded yearly so I'd expect xxD to be every two years and it must be close.
Imo 70D II will become the FF intro. A couple of month later 70D will overtake 7D features and power.

Guess we all wating for a sensor that is equal to the Exmore-family! I bet there are frustration amongst Canon about this... Question is when will they succede?
New bodies that arre compatible with the the new flash system and newer lenses with their focus system are problably due anytime

As far I see it the 7D firmware update was a massive one and it added much power to 7D. I guess most happy 7D users are very happy about it. So they will not be to angry when 7D II turns into the intro FF body at 2000 Euro and 7D "level" went down to XXD.
