PDAF has always been less accurate than contrast. Its fast, it can track things, its never been known for accuracy.
now canon can say - new high end SLR and new lenses make it all supergreat! That could easily drive sales of new products.
Doesnt mean the old way was bad or they were short changing the users. Things should get better with improvements, right?
true enough, but as I said sometimes marketing and business guys have no clue about the tech they sell and don;t know what matters and what doesn't, although this would seem brainless, granted
especially to help market the $$$ 24-70 II against the tamron

Wonder if RC will test some nikor the same way?
he say he will, that will be interesting, will the D800/D4 match or be left behind? does nikon have a ton or a handful or no lenses that work well like this? did they have it since D700 era or before or still not even with their latest?
if nikon doesn't you also think it could be a big marketing point

Of course there is more to AF than revealed on this test.
The 5D2 center point, in practice, seemed to work better than 50D to me.
And even with old lenses the 5D3 will do more precise 1 shot than the 5D2 in some circumstances, in practice.
And once you get into AI Servo that is a different ball game.
