p.2 #1 · Speedlight on the cheap?

I just ordered one since I need one on the cheap for a gig this weekend. I suppose I am impressionable
And 99% of the time I shoot in Manual anyway with flash, and at the very lease I can use this on an umbrella stand as a second (as a slave) for portrait work..

I got mine off Amazon for $85 and should be here tomorrow.

So initial thoughts.. This thing is molded from a Canon 580EX ii. Including the buttons. Feels solid, and the head rotation seems to be a little stiff compared to my 430 Ex II.

Output is on par with my expectations. Slave functionality with my 7d appears to work just fine.

Hopefully my initial thoughts stay positive after my job this coming saturday.

p.2 #3 · Speedlight on the cheap?

I ended up changing my mind and going with the YN-565EX. I found it on eBay for $135 shipped. The reason behind it was that if I had any issues with my wireless triggers, I could just move to the CLS system and it would be able to be triggered by my on camera flash or the SB-900.

It seems to be well built. The size is very comparable to my SB-900 and the only thing I have found that feels cheap on it is the cover for the PC connection. My guess is it will be ripped off within the first few shoots. I have tested all the functions that I would use and it works well. It's quiet while recharging too. Time will tell on how it will hold up.

I might look into borrowing an SB-900 as another backup. It looks like I will be able to use my AB800 at the reception so I think I will be in good shape for lighting.
