I need to preface this as I finally received my Dx on Monday, I had only shot 26 frames prior to shooting this Orlando City soccer game last night. I'm also short on time and didn't want to post too many images, but on my website I posted 100 0f the 650+ images shot. Many of the others were sharp photos but not as close to peak action. The images range in ISO from 1000 to 12800 and go like this.
I might also add I shot the first half with the 400 2.8 IS, and the 2nd half with the 400+1.4 series 2
AF is amazing fast without and surprisingly fairly fast with the 1.4 attached. I used out of the box AF zoning set up of 5 and 9 clusters. I hadn't shot this level soccer in a while so I stayed away from single FP. This camera puts the 1DMk4 far behind. you got to shoot it to believe. Many first images in focus.
Sorry for the jumbo images, but it gives you an good idea! ( I can down size them if it bothers anyone! )
Glad to see your results with the high ISO on the 1DX. Very nice.
I was able to use one briefly last week but was not able to fully set it up. I was impressed with the fast AF. How do you like the new functions and interface?
As far as the functions there nicely laid out the menus are A breeze to toggle through, but remembering the new AF functions and clusters will take some time getting use to, and the magnify button was moved from a right handed upper right function on the mk3 and mk4 to a left handed function under the lcd on the dx. But like you say the AF just snaps on the 400. I haven't really placed any of my other L glass on it. cant wait to place the 70-200 v2 on it, or my 200 f2.
The two posted images were cropped for appearance on the 12800 ISO cross he was on the far corner opposite from where I was and the other 10000 ISO image was closer towards the top of the box close to the center of the pitch. Processed in LR4 not much NR or sharpening small boost in saturation no other post work or any specialized web sharpening shot in jpg too.
I ignored my mk4 and 70-200 all night. The 1Dx ROCKS! and I never opened her up to test the FR buffer, but you can easily make your post work a long night if your not careful by racking up the frames.
There is a link to about 100 photos from this soccer match below the photo iso descriptions(look here). Then there are 2 photos at the bottom of the post.
