p.1 #1 · If Nikon made a new 300mm F2, would you buy it ?
Hi All
I have been thinking this for a while and its just got back in my head after Nikon saying there are producing a new afs vr version of the 800mm and it got me thinking again why dont Nikon make a new AF-S VR version of the old but truly outstanding 300mm F2 manual version.
so I would just like people on here to say would they use the lens if Nikon produced it ? or do you think you will just stick witht he 200mm F2 ?

Put me down for one! Talk about destroyin' BG's Could also live with it as a 420 f2.8 VR for BIF (w/TC)

If the price and weight equaled the 400/2.8 then I would rather get the 400. The 300/2.8 has a nice size and weight advantage over the longer primes, I fear that would go away with a 300/2.

You'd need to have a special tri-cycle mount but it would come in handy when you sold your car to buy it... and I can just imagine the ladies at the rodeo asking the Monkey "is that a new 300mm f2 or is your 200mm f2 just really happy to see me"?

The Nikkor 300mm f/2.0 ED-IF weighed in ~16 lbs. If they trimmed it down to 10 or 12
I've still got a few good years left to give it a run onna BushHawk...or i could buy a new truck

No, f/2.8 is fast and large enough already. However, I'm not sure that a modern 300/2 would have to be heavier than a 600/4. The front element diameter is the same and a 300 should be shorter.

If it comes with a transportable turret, or a full-body steady-cam rig, and costs a reasonable amount (same or less than 400/2.8), then it could be a nice proposition!
A hefty piece of glass. But: One of the few lenses which is capable of delivering D800 resolution when shot wide open. Given the age of between 27 and 30 years an outstanding achievment.
