I think I need to start some kind of A99 charity fund now

Just learned I have to put a new roof on the house and we'll be moving soon so another huge chunk of cash will be going into closing costs.

Looks like my 5Dc may have to hold on a bit longer

SIGH. The DPR samples... The people weren't so bad. The landscapes, though...

Is this one actually using an art filter? Really??! One tiny strip of the scene is in focus. WTF.

see photo DSC00099

And what is wrong with this one? Is it lens or camera? The center is OK, but look off center. Look at the vineyard on the right. Total mushy mush.

see photo DSC00224

BLECH.

DSC00105

Think I'm gonna cancel my preorder and sit tight with my Canon gear. I know these may not be representative of how the camera will perform for me, but the gnarly samples are seriously putting me off of spending that much $$$ and especially putting me off of being an early adopter!

(sorry, I can get links to work with the photos so far...)

No good. These testers have to do better with that fine sensor to wake up Canon from their cryo-sleep.

Probably once this gets into some capable hands and enough real time spent shooting happens, we'll see some better samples. Otherwise, I agree... not inspiring at all. Sony REALLY needs to source some better people to get early photo samples out. It seems to be a problem across the board (NEX, NEX Lenses, RX1, now A99, etc...)

Sony, are you listening? I have a ton of free time, a blog, and post in multiple forums... I even know how to take sum pikshurz two.

Thrice! How are outer points focusing accuracy compared to 5D2?

Don't have both to compare. Spec-wise and considering the change in generation they should be more accurate.

@Jacot - Yep. It's one thing when you are trying to get people to upgrade who are already in Sony camp, but the samples are certainly not making me think about selling my gear and migrating! I'm thinking hellyah, my old 5D2 is still looking pretty good!

@Thrice - Oh, A99 has totally new AF technology so I do not trust the specs on that one!!

Any chance you can remove the pellicle mirror temporarily to see if it'll still AF with a ZA24-70 with the on sensor AF sensors?

Nope, you can't remove it easily. This is not my camera so no surgery.

You are right, it has a nice tight grain structure as well. I'd say it's about 1.5 stops ahead of my Leica M9 in terms of noise with quite a bit better DR and colour at ISO1600 and above.
Very clean base ISO, monstrous DR.

And the dog just caved. Thanks, Dan!

Dan, for anyone else asking - Sony are quite firm on 5 November for Aust delivery, via the several in-country discount outlets.

DSC00224 was shot with the "auto miniature" style.

But, yeah. 105 is horrible.

wait!?! is it harder to remove than the a55 mirror? i'm definitely not buying one if the mirror can't be easily removed.

michelle – i wouldn't worry too much about the samples from dpr. nothing kills gear lust like looking at any dpr sample pictures from the object of your lust.

A pretty comprehensive A99 review in Chinese with lots of samples, including downloadable raw's...

http://www.mobile01.com/newsdetail.php?id=12497

The multi-frame NR produces some impressive results at 6400 and 12800.

Love it, can't wait till my A99 ships.

I am going to wait until there are some nice landscapey works coming out... It won't be long now until the camera is in good hands. Its set to release in Nov.?

The NEX 6 reviews seem to be fairly glowing, too...

I thought the size would've killed your interest long before this.

ok you caught me, i'm not thinking very seriously of buying one anytime soon. after the price drops a grand or so i might pick one up for telephoto work though. the size won't bother me with my 350mm (might even be acceptable with a 200mm ). i'll certainly never buy it as a main camera though.

Yeah, I can't deny that the 7 is my "main" camera, if for no other reason than it goes everywhere with me, even when I'm taking the a900 out for something specific. It gives me very few reasons not to use it, but since much of that is dependent on the features the a99 shares in common (actually one-ups it with the ease of waist-level portrait oriented shots given the full articulation of the screen, and adds SS), I'm wondering if that'll change. I'll be at a trade expo in New York the first week in November, so I'm hoping to skip over to B&H and check out how it feels in hand. The a900's big and awkward looking, but it's surprisingly comfortable to hold for hours on end, even with a weighty lens like the 35 lux.

I was just going to post this one, it really shows the quality of the A99 sensor. I wish it could be run through google translate. Lots of samples and it doesn't look like a lot of whining about the EVF like the LL review.
