p.1 #1 · Nikon 300/4 AFS lens hood issue...Any ideas?

I have a Nikon 300/4 AFS and the built in lens hood is extremely stiff to pull out and push in. There is a black string/knot that has emerged from between the hood and the lens. Anyone have ideas or insights on how to fix this situation? I don't want to do anything to screw up the lens or the hood. Tucking it back in doesn't seem to resolve the issue. It just keeps reemerging. Thanks!

Tell..or show...us more about this "black string/knot" you speak of...
I have this lens but no "black string" yet.

A pic would help to see what your talking about.

Sounds like some thread from your closes got in between the hood/lens or maybe the felt on the inside of the hood is coming off and rolling up?

You do twist it before pushing/pulling right?

I did find it annoying that the hood would slide out sometimes so I put a bit of gaffers tape.

No string here either. As you are looking through the view finder twist the hood to the left, extend it, then short (1/8 turn?) to the right to lock it in place.
