Maybe, but there will be a M10 with lifeview (and of course FF). The questions is only this year or next year?

i am not as optimistic about that as you. i believe the likely sensor for the m10 has been identified and is not capable of liveview. also, i suspect leica believes that incorporating a good liveview interface would ruin the simplicity and heritage of the m line as well as alienating a vocal portion of their consumer base.

True, but then again the latest interview with Leica UK manager has confirmed that it will have not only LV but video too.

The demise of Kodak is certainly affecting Leica as well. Might this mark the end of Leica CCD sensors and the beginning of the CMOS era?

Luckily we are not affected by the bankruptcy of Kodak because the sensor business was sold before Kodak got in trouble. CCD is a nice technology, it gives you really wonderful performance, but in order to realize some very interesting and more and more mandatory becoming functions such as live view you need CMOS. There is no way around it. We have taken measures to face that. Video, live view, power consumption and a lot of similar things speak for CMOS.

So there will be a movie record button AND a direct print button? Sweet!

Live View would be great for lens like C-Sonnar and Nokton 1.1

The most interesting part is that it's going to be your mirrorless FF with EVF and all the goodies, in addition to a traditional RF added for the purists. So basically the perfect mirrorless.

Except that I will have to sell both my kidneys and my liver.

So are you going forward with the M9 purchase or waiting for the M10?

Hmmmm, unless the seller makes me an offer I can't refuse, as Don Corleone says, I think I will wait for the M10

Luckily I got the funds ready, even though this year has been a financial disaster for me so far.

I am happy that you will be getting the M10, I will have to wait for cheaper alternatives.

Thank you! Let's hope the M10 will be as good as the rumor.

steve huff's crystal ball has been quite murky in the past, i'm not banking on anything there.

i also don't seen anything in that interview that actually says the m10 will have liveview, just that leica realizes they need to move towards adopting CMOS and liveview.

i certainly hope most of these rumors are true, though it doesn't sound like there is any solution to the close focus problem with leica lenses (short of new lenses). i guess we'll find out soon...

I totally agree.
The fantasies for FF by many on this forum can't overcome the fact that most consumers won't buy it.
On this forum, there seems to be many who think that their personal preferences for the ideal FF milc translates to the general public - the suggestion to not have an LCD for example would never happen.
I would love a cheaper, smaller version of a Leica M9, but that camera isn't going to be a bigger seller.
You'd have to convince the camera companies that they'd make more money with full frame and that's just not going to happen.

I dont quite agree. You would think that consumers wont buy cameras like 5DII, 5DIII, D700 or even NEX-7 either. Yet these cameras have sold like hotcakes. For that matter even leica M9 has sold surprisingly well for what it is. And its not that these cameras are bought mainly by professionals. Specially a camera like 5DII which has few pro features other than its sensor. A large majority of the buyers for these cameras are just enthusiasts. Sure they don't sell in the same numbers as rebel bodies but at the same time they have very good profit margins. In my opinion the main issue is coming up with a big enough lens system to make it attractive to enthusiasts. Not many companies can afford to invest in a whole new lens mount and come up with a broad enough lens selection in a short period of time. But if today there is an FF mirror-less body with a good selection of high quality lenses, I bet it will sell very well.

I think Steve's crystal ball is pretty accurate this time around...

If you had a good Live View implementation, at least you'd be able to close focus with extension tubes. You could probably even build a super slim helicoid extension tube like Pentax has for some of their systems.

Also some achromat close up lenses are quite impressive.

I hope Leica will make the M10 an evolution of the M9. Sure LV would be nice, but that would be about it regarding extravagant (in the Leica M world) features

And then release a new line between the X and M, i.e, M-styled body but with a built in EVF instead of the RF and of course interchangeable lenses and all the bells and whistles one would expect for such a camera like video. With AF and fully compatible with M-lenses. With a price somewhere between the X1 and M9, I think they have a huge market opportunity there. Especially if they make it full frame, although that would probably make it as expensive as the M10.

Personally though, I could live with APS-C if they make a bunch of AF primes with the same IQ as the 24/2.8 they have in the X1/X2, given a lower price tag.

Imho the rumors about a M10 with "extra everything" sounds like a step away from a Leica EVIL. Future will tell
