Hmm indeed. I'd expect F8 to be sharper at the edges than that. 4.5 seems really off - have you micro-adjusted AF yet or are those live view? I was rooting for this lens, I'd like a it for my D800, now I'm a bit worried.

Focused in LV. The good news is the PDAF doesn't require AF tune on the lens (not surprising considering the small max aperture) and the lens is well centered...both edges are equally mushy
Get off that target crap. Go shoot some pictures and I think you will find the lens just fine. I have no idea why people buy a good product then do there best to make it look bad. This forum is full of idots like you. Get a life.....

really?
I love using my tools for taking pictures, and I like having the best tools within my budget.
If on the other hand, people like the techie part of this hobby and like seeing how their lenses behave under controlled environments, can you blame them? It's perfectly valid and it serves a purpose.
Go somewhere else with your hatred. No need for the negativity, just skip the thread altogether
Some real world shots on my D700 with the new Nikkor 24-85/3.5-4.5G VR lens. These are just random test shot around the house today. So far, I like it!

thanks for posting all those MackD., looks on par with the 24-120 f4 to me.
No problem at all. I do apologize for the lack of EXIF data though, when I uploaded these, I opted to allow Fotki to "re-size" of which I never do. Now the EXIF data is stripped... stupid. Oh well, they uploaded faster!
And I'm with you. They look every bit as good as the 24-120/4 VR did (I had, and sold that lens.) So far, this will do the job I want it for.
