I am completely new to m43 but having suffered airline weight issues on a recent trip to Africa and needing long focal length for birds i am putting together an m43 travelling kit. I have decided on the GX8 because it is being discounted heavily right now and, in any case, I prefer its ergonomics to the EM1. However, I have been told that, despite the common mount, Olympus lenses are better suited to Olympus bodies and vice versa. Now this is presumably an IS issue but both the LP100-400 and Oly 300/4 have IS built in so I am wondering whether there will be a big difference. Any thoughts here will be welcome because, although pricing commends the LP, the Oly 300 looks to be a cracker.

Yes Bobby it may very well be a good alternative although a bit slower compared to the Oly 300.
From the shots I've seen so far the bokeh from the Pana 100-400 looks a bit better then from the Oly 300 which does look nervous in some shots.
Doing some searches on the lens I found this blog and review (one of the first up I believe, I've read it before).
Looks like, oddly enough, the lens has some focusing problems at its longer reach. Actually described as back focusing and fixable via EM-1 lens focus settings.
