Awesome, Paul. Did you use a CPL?
Thank you and yes. I rotated it to get the amount of mountain reflection and amount in the water I wanted to reveal. Heliopan 82mm CPL.
Paul, do you find shooting at ISO 50 makes any difference? I thought it supposedly reduced dynamic range because the camera is just shooting internally at base ISO (100) and doing a one stop pull. Therefore the common advice I've read has been to avoid it in situations where there might be highlight clipping.

To be candid, that was a lesson I learned the hard way on one of my shots. I have an extremely noisy sky on one of my photos that I attribute to shooting at ISO 50. From here on out, I will probably only use it sparingly.

Now that Edd (Roboticspro) has found the thread and showered upon us those incredible sailboat images, we are gathering old "members", and happy to see fine contributions from new "members".
Sorry for the megabyte bomb of photos in that one post...it was just an awesome event that had not happened here in New England for the past 18 years. It is great to see the old & new members of this seasonal thread that Peter rides herd on. Always good to see the places represented and gear/techniques used to capture these moments in time. What I also find really enjoyable (and my wife), are the photos of the members kids (15Bit, Tenn.Jer, Photon, Reno, RobLynn, Cputeq and more ) going up in front of us. You guys should be real proud...
Peter: The birdshots (Cedar Waxwing and Terns) with the 800L and 7D look great, but I do understand your comments about the noise margin. My work-around has been to use the ISO multiples of 160 (with f2.8), 320 (with f4), and 640 (with f5.6) as my baseline settings. There have been quite a few posts on this topic within and outside of FM; it seems to work for me with both full-frames and the 7D crop. I also use a layer of unsharp mask to prevent sharpening OOF areas, including sky. Just my 2 cents...
So you just couldn't let that 800mm out of the inventory...
One from a few days ago in the front garden. Taken with the old 5D, with the ancient FL55mm f1.2 up in front, riding on 10mm's worth of extension, wide open (f1.2)!
It is not possible nor fair to single out any particular images from the sea of fine photography in here, but that barn image combines old wood, rugged mountains and wispy cloud sky in a very happy way.
