1DX + 400 f/5.6....learning the camera's quirks slowly.
And I have just finished the first phase of Servo AF tests. There is still about 4 alternative target/motion types to do, as well as a couple of different lenses. Will keep me occupied thru August for sure.

We had a really nice sunset here the other day..after just receiving my 16-35 f/2.8L in the mail I figured it was time for some shots! Went out and shot this, did a bit of Lightroom work, but I enjoy how it turned out...Flickr seems to sharpen photos a LOT.

...no, you see, I was up on a jewel of a lake for a couple of days and through some 37C induced mental aberration, I switched to jpeg. When I saw that out of the scores of kites and buzzards whirling about many were coming out with hair gel spikes and flowers all candied , I had to re-duck to RAW to find my sanity again.

Belted Kingfishers in flight with the 500L II on the X would be the ultimate test.

shot my 1st wedding w/ the 1dx last night...looking forward to many more.

The wedding and reception was at the Muhumad Ali Center here in Louisville, so they let the bride and groom put on some gloves!

and how about a little low light/high iso action. It was very dark. so here is the 1dx, 50L @1.2 iso 12,800. Very little noise reduction applied. I could clean it up quite a bit, but i am happy w/ it as is.

I also used a 5d iii and 1d iv w/ the 50 L during this first dance and will post my thoughts about them all in a bit.

Peter:

Nice shot, but the Kingfisher in flight, tight to the far bank, a foot off the surface is the shot that gave the 1DIII and 1DIV fits.

If you, the X and 500II can do it I'll spend the $$$.

Our Kingfishers don't return until it cools in October and the wait is killing me.

Good shooting

The diving shots are not very difficult to do as long as one is positioned within a reasonable distance to a perched KFC: just MF to the anticipated dive spot, wait and let it rip when the bird goes down.

Bona fide KFC in flight shots are harder to do.

I'd say yes..... as much as those owl in-flight shots people get by baiting the birds with live mice .

The 1DX testing continues. This time with 800L lens.

Beautiful Peter, most of my BIFs are back-lit, really tough to catch them in good light. Is that goose flying low or are you shooting from higher ground?

Thank you, John, glad you like it.
I did shoot that goose from an elevated peer, and the goose was flying relatively low too, against a backdrop of some trees, although still higher than what my elevation was.
However, because that was a long range shot with 800L, the effect of that was "levelling" with the target.
