So I've had a pretty productive day and it's not even 8:00AM yet. I got up at 4:30 for the sunrise in Ocean Cit, NJ, shot for just over an hour, learned some new processing techniques, and have already uploaded them. This was my firs time using LEE filters and long-ish exposures for motion.

The sunrise itself was fair, low lying clouds hid the sun until it rose over them and just turned into a hazy orange blob but I think the pictures are still pretty good.

I'm not on my IPS monitor so let me know if they're over-cooked.

Everyone have a great weekend.

Thank you, Michael....that 1DMkIIN JPG converter is pretty good.

Here is what happened the other day when I tossed too much live fish bait into the lake: a passing boat churned the fish up to the surface which attracted every seagull and tern capable of flight, within one mile radius.
You can also see heavy duty atmospheric haze I've had to deal with when shooting birds on the lake.

There is a reason why your 1D2N IQ is smoother than any canon cam at low iso: http://home.comcast.net/~NikonD70/Charts/RN_ADU.htm

i would keep it since it just has a new shutter & new calibration.

There you go, I knew there was I reason why I am still shooting with 1DMkIIN as my main camera. My usual ISO range is 100-400......very seldom I go to ISO 800.

You see, being an amateur I can afford to shoot only in good light......if the light is not good, I just do not shoot, regardless of the camera ISO rating and capability. That's is so simple.

An interesting chart, I looked at the 40D and 5D2, 5D3 and they are quite close until you get to higher ISOs.
But the 5Dc although exhibits a similar pattern is 2 stops lower in noise...much like the 1D series!?
That's how sweet a machine the 5Dc is...the 1DIIN is half a stop higher at low ISO...is that FF vs APS-H sensor size difference?
Pixel size and density do matter...

Jerry

PS...I know this isn't a technical thread, but just curious...

The chart is based on ADUs, so the scale is not normalized for 12-bit (1D2N) vs 14-bit bodies. The 1D2N has about the same read noise as the bodies released after it. As for the "smoother" images, it's principally because of the 1D2N's lower resolution.

NIce shots from everyone.

Went on a small photo "trip" today to a local duck pond, getting to be dried up (we need some rain!).

Testing new-to-me 7D and semi-new-to-me 70-200 2.8 IS. I think the lens is front focusing just a smidgen on this body, as I was getting some shots at f5, 7.1 etc that should have been in focus but weren't as much as I had hoped.

Focus tracking works fine, but sadly not a lot of flying going on at noon.

I apologize, Michael....that was 1DsMkII, not 1DMkIIN.
I am certaily keeping the 1DMkIIN.....the camera is my all time favourite (used in conjunction with 1DsMkII), I just wish for a better Servo AF performance, nothing else.

Good Evening Peter & Crew,

A few tonight from the old Canon 7, as in film camera, if that is okay... From my Boston trip on Friday, developed this morning and scanned with the Canoscan 2710.

Off to Newport for the next two days, working with the Tall Ships...

Regards,

Edd
