I was walking outside my well today and noticed a ridiculously large insect.

Can anyone provide a clue as to what this is?

Dobsonfly, they are huge, scary looking but mostless harmless. All that said immature females ones can deliver a fierce bite. Oh, lastly I forget, they can and do spray a nasty foul spray of fluid out of their anal glands when unhappy or threatened.
