p.1 #1 · Three Seashells

This sand dollar shot in my home-made desktop macro studio. I'm not a macro professional but I do enjoy close-ups of seashells, one of my favorite macro subjects. Hope you like these. Any C&C is also welcome.

Backside of a Striped Nautica sea shell. Color, texture and patterns all appeal to me.

Great shots Love how you bring out the texture in no. 1. How is your lighting set-up?

Thanks very much.
My set up is as follows: a black sheet for the surface. I shot with an alien bee light through a softbox on the right and hand-held a reflector in the left (sometimes holding it very close to eliminate all shadows and other times not using it at all if going for a more "high-contrast" look). I tried lots of different amounts of reflected fill-in light and then tried to choose the one or two I felt were best.

Thanks Michael,

The AB with softbox is really much bigger than what I need for macro stuff, but it is what I have. (I've played around with some portrait stuff before too). I set it next to my table at about 45-degree angle off to the right side. It takes a bit of space in my garage when I set it up and I shot a bunch for a couple of nights before packing it all away.
