Nice thread If the 135/2 were cheaper, we'd have gotten one instead of the 85. However, right now, the 85 will do. That said, someday I wouldn't mind picking up a 135.

nice thread this belongs in the canon forum. i don't think a single post has had anything to say other than sweet lens, its useful for wedding photography.

Wow, i envy those bokehlicious images. But really, aren't those images possible with a 70-200 2.8 lens too?
Kind of - yes - but at a LOT less weight!!
There's still something about the quality of the lens which beats the 70-200 for me - at least the I version - and it's my most consistent focussing lens (according to FoCal).
Sometime ago I traded my 135L to help fund the 70-200/2.8mkII. Additionally, the 135L (my copy) was constantly backfocusing on my 5Dclassic. Apparently it was a mistake. Each time I see a thread like this I long for it again and I should have sent it in to Canon to have the AF issue sorted out.
After I get my 5DmkIII, 50L and 85, it will be the next lens on my list.
I do have two wedding-related questions about the 135L:
1. At which part of the day do you use it most? Prep - ceremony - formals - reception - party? I found the 135L a little too long and not versatile enough for ceremonies, but it was sweet for candids during reception.
2. What aperture do you shoot it mostly during weddings?
Just sold my sigma 85 and 135L to fund a 70-200 mkII. No chance to shoot a wedding on it yet. I had previously sold my 70-200 mkI to fund the two primes....
Next wedding next weekend so I'll see how it goes with my new relatively-MEGA-heavy zoom...
In answer to your Qs;
1. Ceremony and formals. Great for all formal pics if you have the space to zoom with your feet. The IQ is superb and there is just something about it. However, I really could have used the extra reach and IS (Im kind of shaky) of the 70-200 sometimes.
2. I shoot ceremonies at f/2 or 2.8 usually IIRC. Portraits and group pics at 3.5 for razor sharp details.
Congrats on the 70-200II. It will make your life easier I see you shot ceremonies with the 135L. If you did so @f/2.8, you won't really miss the 135L. Please report back after your first wedding

It's one of my most used lenses! Not for prep but ceremonies, for sure. Also for the after-ceremony pics of the couple at a park or wherever. And for cocktail hour. And toasts. And throughout the dancing portion of the reception.
