The charger for M8 batteries is rather large. I was looking for something smaller, and found that the Canon S95 charger could work by making the proper adapting plug. Might need some black paint and a red dot now ...

You can use old hotel cards to make the plug. You will also need copper wires and conducting material. Thank you Marriott!

The plug fits neatly in the little Canon charger

Back side of the plug See the small cutouts in the corners to fit in the Canon charger.

Front side with wiring. See the higher rails on the sides to guide the Leica battery.

Pretty neat but I would be scared of an electrical fire or something....

Very rightly so. The (T) line is your friend ...

Now, Li-Ion batteries are kind of generic, and many are sharing the same operating modes. I have been using non-Leica batteries in my M8 (OK so far) and never heard of a camera going nuts with non-OEM batteries.

If Leica wasn't charging >$100 I would buy their stuff, but at $10, these generic batteries are too good to pass on ...

I tried this method, using the Delkin Leica charger plates, but it didn't work out for me.

That's odd. What happened? If you are using copper wires of large enough section, there isn't much that can go wrong (assuming you had a small charger with appropriate specs).
