After reading the above, I emailed CG about the construction of their inner frames. Here is the response:
Thanks for the note. We have not changed the construction of our product, in fact it is patented, and we do not plan on any changes in the future either. We continue to be very proud of our products and proud to serve our customer base at an incredible price point.
Our Premium Gallery Wraps are constructed of genuine artist canvas folded around and adhered to a wood form made of high density fiber board (we have an in-house wood-shop), the form is 1-1/4" depth. Canvases are printed using 8 Color Inkjet Printers and primarily use house-made pigment-based inks. Each is finished off with a solid black backer board, standard with pre-fitted sawtooth hangers, to achieve a neatly enclosed canvas wrap that arrives ready to hang. We do consider our product archival quality. Sizes 16x20 and up have a Styrofoam insert to further support the longevity of the structure.
High density fiber board is masonite, which is pretty tough but it's not wood. Still much better than cardboard. ...Show more →
As I said, I still buy a lot of their product--they get plenty of my money. Also, I ran a test of their color fastness. I had them make two small canvas wraps of a color test chart. I kept one in the original wrapping and put it into a drawer. I put the other in a southern window where it got full sunlight all day long for a full year. When I compared the two at the end of a year, I could detect no fading at all in the exposed print. Their work is good and certainly worth the price.
I tried those groupon offers with good to mediocre results. The shipping costs are outrageous.
Recently, my camera club received a discount off from canvaspallette.com. I needed a focal point for my new home and gave them a try. 24x36 with free shipping. Very, very happy. Ordered on Saturday, on my wall on Wednesday. Sent an uprezzed to 300dpi, srgb, jpg and they did a fantastic job. Well packed and high quality wrap. Highly recommend. They also have custom coatings, but I went with standard.
