p.1 #1 · Private Ebay Listings For Software

I was browsing Ebay recently and noticed several vendors were selling Nik Silver Efex really cheap. The product was listed as "factory sealed, brand new" and was set up as a private listing.
I assume there is some sort of scam going on. Any ideas?

whats the price?

BH has the aperture/lr collection for like $219. With the note that if older software in the box, it was eligible for upgrade. If a reputable place like BH has some older stock to move for cheaper than Nik web price, there could be others. But.....

Much lower than this and you are quickly getting into too good to be true territory imo.

The usual scam is that they sell the same serial number to multiple people (hence the private listings).

One guy is selling SE2 for $100 and another has it for $45. Not listed as academic or upgrade.

Just looked this morning at new feedback:
Illegal VIVEZA codes not recognised by NIK & Can't B registered online. Reported
I guess that tells the tale.

Just a note. I've been burned by ebay software (I bought a stand alone PS install years ago, and though it looked real worked correctly, it was a fake.

All the money was lost, and it wasn't cheap.

Be very careful and if you do take a chance, pay with Visa/CC and try to register it immediately (I didn't).

ebay software, imo, only good for one thing. A somewhat honest way to go legit is to scare up an old copy of a software still in the accepted upgrade path, get it for cheap and then buy from a real, authorized, software vendor an upgrade edtition of the latest and greatest, By and large, most installers I have seen only activate based on the newest serial. That old serial, or if really lucky jsut need the install media, just a verification check you have the older version to upgrade. This check appears to be software only, installers sees it has the key gen matrix used for the product and moves on. Not 100% boy scout honest but one route to lose the eye patch and pirate hat and become a normal paying customer. In the end...the software maker gets 1 more paying customer so it comes out in the wash at some point. This how I went legit with some of my purchases tbh.

Beyond that...direct purchase/download from the vendor or buy software from accepted vendors the better options imo.
