I currently have a Manfrotto hydrostatic head on my Gitzo Explorer... but I am buying a second lighter tripod - the Gitzo 1541T - and everybody is suggesting that I should buy an Arca-Swiss compatible head for it (RRS BH-30 or similar).
If I would follow this suggestion, I think I should replace the Manfrotto head on my Explorer, for not have to deal with two different set of plates.
So the question is: which Arca-Swiss compatible head do you think I would buy for the Explorer?
In alternative I could buy a Manfrotto (or Gitzo) head also for the GT 1541T and save some money...
What alternative is better in your opinion?
first of all i'd buy the GT2541ex over the 2531ex. it gets a tiny bit more flexibility in use. that is the 1 Gitzo tripod i own. so i did put a more robust head on it being the BH40. i would not use a BH30 on it.

And what does a new thread answer, that the previous one did not?
Sorry, maybe I was not clear
In the previous thread I was looking for advice with regard with the GT1541T tripod I am ordering.
Here I want advice for another tripod I already have, the GT2531EX
In the previous thread, after your suggestions, I decided I have to buy a Markins or a RRS head
Now I would like to know which head to buy for the GT 2531EX as replacement for the head I already own. A RRS BH-40 or BH50 or another brand?
The reasons for my question are the following:
- I want two heads, one for tripod
- however I think that the RRS BH-30 or the Markins Q3T (one of which I would buy for the traveler tripod) would not fit well on the 2531EX
- I think my current Manfrotto head should be replaced to have only one system of plates, usable with both tripods... so either I buy ArcaSwiss-like heads for both tripods or I have to buy a Manfrotto head also for the Gt1541T tripod
Amazingly enough, the Q3t head works very well on my Gitzo 2531 set of legs, but i did order the Markins Q10 for my 2531 and have been very pleased with it. I keep the Q3t on my gitzo mono and 1541 as needed.
I went with the screw knob release on both, so i never have too worry about all the differing plates i have accumalated over the years. I also went for the Redhead look on both my Q3t and Q10, it really looks nice, and i get more compliments on my heads than my pics ;-)
my M10 is an almost military grey/green and perfectly matched the gitzo legs. markins america offered to give me a new one when i sent it in for a fix. he said he never saw that color before. it sits on my old bogen/manfrotto

Markins Q3t is the ideal solution for both sets of legs, either the QR or screw release.
Works very well here.
Best
+1
Yes the Markins Q3 will save you a lot of money, if using it on both tripods. The ballhead is strong so anything those tripods can handle will be no problem for that head
I use the M10 on my (non-explorer) 2531. It is just right. However you may want the Q3 if you are going to dangle it on the end of the explorer boom as it is a little lighter. That way there would be less pendulum effect?

+1. I like red everything - the color of my football teams' jerseys. Francesco I gave you the rationale for the Q3T in your other thread, but below is a pic of a red one on a Gitzo 1541T on the right. Lovely innit?
Markins is a great company, and their heads are very very nice, but the redheads are too die for, as they look as good as they act, when was the last time your redhead did that for you…
