Re: dust. Almost after every shoot, I find dust on the sensor which the auto cleaning system doesn't remove. My most used non photographic gear is a sensor loupe and arctic butterfly
I have to wonder if something is wrong with the dust reduction system on your camera.

I also wonder about the dust problem. I've had oily stuff on various sensors which required careful cleaning when the camera was new, but loose dust showing up after every shoot? None of my bodies with dust reduction systems have had new detritus show up with any frequency beyond rare.
I heard Zeiss has patented 3D effects, and Disney has long held the patent on magic, with licensing agreements to Leica and David Copperfield.
Seriously, from the standpoint of imaging quality for the shooting that you say you do, I see no point to switching from Mk II to Mk III.

Not sure about that. First thing is, of course, to check that it is turned on in the menu! You could also try the manual method - one of the three settings in the sensor cleaning window. Sorry, I don't have my camera in front of me right now, so I have to try to recall this from memory. There are three settings in that screen. One turns the automatic sensor cleaning feature on/off. A second runs a single cycle of the sensor cleaning process while the camera remains on. The third gets you into the full manual cleaning process which locks up the mirror, opens the shutter and so forth.
You want to try the second option - the one that runs the automatic process immediately. A way to test would be to make a test exposure (e.g. - f/16 aimed at a uniform subject), then run the process, then make a second exposure and see if there is a difference.
I've been told that people with excellent high frequency hearing are able to hear the sensor vibration system, but I haven't been able to.

I have a habit to let the camera sleep most of the time and carry the camera in that mode with me in my bag even when I travel. With my limited turning it on and off, the dust removal system did get activated very little. Recently, I noticed a dust bunny in the sky area. I used the manual dust cleaning of the camera and the dust disappeared after that. I would say that the durst removal system is quite effective. However, I realize that each situation is different.
