p.1 #1 · Who is this?

I was waiting for the hawks to "act." Suddenly, there was an alarm about 10 feet from me, really loud. It was late in the evening. Looking around I found this guy. What, who is he. Looking abit like a hummer, but then it was to big. Interesting with a heart on his chest.
Please ID.

That would be a flicker. Now which one I'm not sure of....but you should have an answer shortly from one of the brighter FM members.

yes, flicker. he's in the woodpecker family which isn't too distantly related to hummingbirds. nice work!

Thanks, Dorian for the good info. Do you really mean the wookpecker and the hummer are related and the flicker is the hybrid between them?
It does have the look of a hummer as I obseved in the opening of the thread, but a lot bigger.
but woodpecker? well what do i know?
