I haven't owned a point and shoot class camera in a while.... but I'll just say that most of them from the big manufacturers are "good."
My first point and shoot was a Nikon coolpix... 2 megapixel... for $450 haha... I've owned P&S cameras from Nikon, Casio, Sony, and Canon. When the Casios first came out, they seemed to power on and be able to take a picture faster than anyone else, so those were my favorites for a while.
The last Canon I owned was the Canon SD4000, of relatively recent vintage. I liked it a lot for what it was.... I carry a micro 4/3 camera now as a small camera though.
Between the two you linked, I'd pick the Canon over the Sony for the cmos sensor- it'll probably yield better results in low light. The megapixel difference doesn't really matter for that class of camera.
