p.1 #1 · Help me - Giottos tripod with standard 2 way head / getting Kirk L bracket with arca swiss?

Okay, so I have a Giottos tripod with the standard quick release 2 way head. I am getting an L bracket for my Mamiya 7 for landscape images and am going to need to get a head that utilizes the arca swiss connection for the L bracket.

Questions: Do I have to replace the WHOLE head with an "arca swiss" type head? If so, shouldn't I just go for a ball head? Do I have to buy a Giottos brand, or will most "arca swiss" compatible heads fit my tripod?

I have always just used the "quick release" plate which I have attached to each camera ... I am not familiar with the "arca swiss" design. Can someone explain it to me?

Thanks so much...

(I have located a Giottos ball head compatible with the arca swiss L bracket for about $100 on Amazon. Is this the cheapest way to go? Or is there an attachment I can use with my 2 way head?)

It may be possible to add an Arca-compatible clamp to your existing head. These 2 manufacturers are a good place to start and will provide a wealth of information. Most photographers will advise using a ballhead.
