p.1 #1 · Leica Elmarit-R 2.8/19mm

Will get this lens (latest version) the next days. Unfortunately I have seen to late that the lens must be shaved a little bit as recommended on the Leitax site for FF Nikon cams.

Is this really required for D700/D800. Any experiences here ?

Many thanks in advance.

Rolf

I believe that it is even necessary for mounting on Canon cameras. I hope that it is even possible for Nikon! Let us know.

Resale? I would not even consider buying a lens that had been so modified, who knows who did it and how good a job they did, metal filings inside a Leica?

Write David Llado re the D800 fit, I saw one in an image on his site, so he can advise directly. Or buy a Sony FF, no worries for them and the SLT models. Nice lens and good for your work, good luck Rolf.

I would not be comfortable with surgery on a Leica R lens and I have a couple sleeping in their boxes awaiting a suitable mount or camera.

Let us know how it goes.

I ground the hell out of my 5D mk ii mirror to successfully mount this lens.

Daniel, have you ever compared it to the Zeiss 21 Distagon, especially for character, not performance? I understand that performance-wise it is less contrasty, and requires stopping down a little to get the corners sharp, but otherwise performs very well. But I am less sure of the character.

Its great lens. Maybe not perfect, but as carsten said, it has character. Leica character, which is 99% time worth bit of work.

It shouldnt be needed to shave anything for Nikon, its dSLR with deepest mount, quite close to Leica R. You will know if mirror hangs.

Thanks all for your comments and special thanks for the link above. This link is worth to bookmark it with really great and fantastic images.

At first I will use this lens with the NEX-7 and bought today a L/R to NEX adapter. I asked David also and got an answer in the meantime incl. an offer for the rework. Will think about it.

If you look at the first image in my Sidestep canyon post (FM landscape Forum) you can see an image taken with this sweet lens mounted on a canon 1Ds iii.

I've never used a 21mm distagon Carsten. I loved the 19mm Elmarit-R though. I built a filter holder for it so I could use 77mm filters and Cokin P grads.
