Is $1000 premium over the X100 worth the likely better AF, 4mpx more, slightly slower Lecia lens, and smaller size?
The detachable EVF was a pain on the Oly's I've used but in this case, I can see it make sense because it makes the camera much smaller.
In my head, the Leica lens is probably going to be better than the pretty decent X100 lens. The X100 lens always did well for me in close to mid but it didn't have any magic at infinity. I'm curious if the X1 at infinity was good or not.

Well, like I noted earlier, the problem is (if you believe Sean Reid, who generally is pro Leica) that $1000 premium does not buy you better AF nor does it gain you any resolution advantage over the X100. It buys you a camera with a slower lens, no built in EVF/ OVF and a red dot. That's pretty much it.
The more I think about it, the more $2000 sounds too much to me. Maybe I'll wait until these drop to a $1200 like the X1 did about 8 months after release.
I would much rather spend $2000 on the A99 or D600. I already have a C3 and Nex-7. What I really need is a live view full frame camera with GPS.
Let me tell you how I decided to buy Leica X1 not one of Fujifilm , while the prices are very different. Here I will not talk about IQ (that's maybe not a subject to even Zeiss ) Have X1 I can own AF M 24mm Elmarit, and to have it , who use Leica M have to spend for at least double that price without AF, beside it, AA-less Sony sensor is a big plus, the camera manipulations is friendly, OS is smart.Through X1 I do erase the thoughts that Germany IT and Electronics are lag behind Asian competitors.X1/X2 are open options for people like me, who admired Leica glasses, RF designs, but cann't afford for the whole M system, and all that I think they are reasonable to buy.
For someone, who insists in IQ, pls go here: http://www.akelstudio.com/blog/leica-x1-vs-fuji-x100-the-final-round-in-studio-performance/
I had an X1 and had mixed feelings about it. The AF on the X1 was horrible! Trying to take pics of your kids was damn near impossible. I bought the X1 for a trip to the VI and lost some pics due to the LCD screen not working together with the sun. I hear the AF is going to be a lot better on the X2, we will see. Would have like a 2.0 lens. Will I pick one up? I will wait for reviews. It's a nice camera to leave in the car.
i've always liked the size and lens on x1/2, though i like what i've seen from x100 lens just as well. the poor autofocus and and obnoxious manual focus killed the x1 for me. the x2 looks a little better since you can put the oly evf on it for precise manual focus, but i'd still rather have a real focus ring and f/2.
I wouldn't say movie stars, they get plenty of attention on their own. Silly priced limited edition Leica's in garish colors are for wealthy, but otherwise nobodies, who feel a need to flaunt their wealth and make sure everyone doesn't just notice the red dot, but the ugly but limited edition camera.
It says they are a "photographer", it says they have money, and it says they want you to think that they are better than you.
Your not going to see a who's who of Hollywood celebs lining up to buy this camera simply because they don't need to.
Its no different that exotic sports cars outside a night club
Do they belong to Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp ? Nope, they belong to some douche bag who's rich but not famous and the car is merely trying to compensate for that. Pitt or Johhny Depp would have all the attention they want even if they pulled up in a Yugo.

It's not made for me and you. It's for movie stars and high-society people as you may expect from the price.
No doubt you'll be able to dress up a Sony RX1 with custom real or faux neon leather very soon after launch, for about 25 - 75$ via the after market. Then you'll (potentially) have both an ugly camera and likely a better performer, for less.
(I know, I know, the target market for this gussied up camera is not the DIY leatherette applying crowd.)
Or go Hassy, because apparently they believe the way to attract "younger" users is to charge a lot for a camera with some wood on it. Put another way, Hassy has decided that younger buyers are essentially stupid thus they have to appeal to something other than their logic centre to have them sign over larger amounts from their wallets.
Inspired by this, I'll be selling some 2x4's, artisanally sawed, to some future camera buyers. In fact I'm going to make a 2x4 and Plywood (nothing but the finest stain grade mind you) NEX-7 carrying case right now, because Wood Is Hot!
If I buy a X2, I would rather get an "ugly color" versions! Gotta say it again... I like the Paul Smith edition. (I know nothing about price differences between different color versions so the comment is purely based on their appearance )
come to think about it... your subject will more likely smile (or laugh) at you with a funny camera than if you are using a boring all black camera
