p.1 #1 · Minolta 24mm 2.8 MD Rokkor VS MC Rokkor

My next purchase is going to be a minolta 24mm 2.8 (55) filter version

My buddy is selling me the MC Rokkor version which is an older version
My question is it worth waiting around for an MD Version?

Is the flare bad on the 24mm MC?

I will be using a hood & on a Minolta film body.

why not shoot a a few shots with it?

I've never used the 24 md on film, now you are making me feel guilty.

My experience with MD 24/2.8 and MC W.Rokkor SI 24/2.8 with NEX5N/7 shows that the newer MD is much more prone to flare than the older MC i.e. to avoid flare MD should have attached the hood all the time whereas MC only in case of strong side light source.

MC is also sharper in the corners.

I eventually sold MD and keep MC which I regard a better lens overall.

that was the 49mm filter thread version of the MD, not the 55mm filter thread version right?

Yes.49mm.The only one with revised optical construction - i.e. reduced number of lenses from 9/7 to 8/7.

MD Rokkor 24/2.8 55mm that I tried vs MC 24/2.8 SI I got was pretty much similar.

p.1 #8 · Minolta 24mm 2.8 MD Rokkor VS MC Rokkor

Hi, a few months ago i had 2 rokkor 24mm f2.8 with 55mm ring filter, one is MC (without SI marking) and the other is MD (2nd gen).
I had some test for looking the difference of that coating generation, the test was going with Nex5 and film too (superia and kodak colorplus).
From the test with Nex i could see that MD have more contrast than MC, so that for the sharpness. MD just won a little bit more sharp than MC. The colour, MC is warm and MD is cool.

I didn't test the flare resistant for both lenses.

Maybe tomorrow i give you the sample image from kodak colorplus and superia

Sorry for my bad english

Sorry to bump an old thread here.

I have the MD 24mm and I can say that it's flare resistance is pretty remarkable. I've never used the MC version, so I can't compare. Here's a shot with the 24 straight into the sun:

I tested the VFC version of the MC against the standard MD version in the last few posts here: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1061118/2
There isn't a lot between them, except the actual aperture's are more accurate on the MD version. (ie, exact 1 stops, on the MC they vary a bit) Visually the coatings are a little deeper in colour on the MD, but still the same colours. The flare is slightly different, but not neccesarily "better" on the MD.
As I haven't been able to sell my VFC version after all the disclosures in that thread,(!), I may keep the VFC and sell my MD version, as the VFC has the advantage of a non rotating front element.

Nice shots, and wealth of information coming out I can't wait to post some pictures.

I'll be doing some tests on Minolta 24mm MD Rokkor vs Minolta 24-50mm f4 center, corner, colors, and flare.

I decided to get the MD Rokkor 55mm filter version for the coatings.
