I haven't posted pics of Clint in ages (mainly because he usually refuses my attempts to photograph him). A bit of bribery worked tonight and we headed downtown. My challenge to myself was to park the car, get out, and see what I could do within short walking distance of where we parked. It's amazing what you can discover when you get out on foot! In addition, I dusted off my poor old 85L. It's been sadly neglected since I bought the 70-200L, but I think I fell in love with it all over again tonight. When it nails focus at F-1.2, it is pure magic.
Before I get into the new pics...check this out. This was Clint 5 years ago. He's growing up so fast!
And here is Clint today, 5 years later. He'll be 15 in July. I can't believe I'm old enough to be a Mom to a 15 year old! 85L @ F-1.2 = LOVE
Can you believe I've been using the stairs that lead up to this landing and door for YEARS now but never once noticed this awesome door? I STILL wouldn't have noticed it had Clint not run up the stairs and pointed it out to me! A little bit of fun urban processing...
Having fun with a chainlink...
85L @ F1-2 again...
Laying in the middle of the alley way? Why the heck not? lol
And just because everyone is posting them tonight, here's my super moon pic. I originally took a pic with my 5Dii + 70-200L but then it dawned on me that I still have my old 40D. I dusted that puppy off and by some miracle, the battery wasn't completely dead (I haven't used it in years) and it brought the moon in just a tad bit closer. This isn't spectacular or anything (and it's a 100% crop) but I'm happy with it over all. And I REALLY want to invest in that attachment that allows me to use my hubby's Zeiss spotting scope on my camera.

At first I only saw text and that top image and thought your style had taken a dramatic dive for the worse but thankfully I scrolled down and they're all as fantastic as normal

Lovely shots as always, and geesh, is there even an average-looking person among your kids? My faves are the first of the good ones -- love the pose and his expression -- and the third of the good ones. His eyes just bring you in.
As for the door, not loving it. It's distracting to me. But I wonder if you'd crop to just below his hands and turn it into a horizontal if it would work for me then. But that's just me. In this case, you're both the shooter and the client. Hard to go wrong, esp when you're the shooter. :-)

I know my calculations are probably off here and I'm aware of the 1.6 crop factor, but I think your moon would have been 145% bigger at 100% crop using the 5Dii. Simply because it's 21MP vs 10MP.

once again, great stuff. I'll offer one critique regarding the doors shot, I like all the elements there, but not sure about the composition, there may be a better one there somewhere. Also, the hinge leading into the head is slightly distracting to me, but that may just be me..overall great work as usual.

I always click onto your posts and appreciate the great use of natural light and post-processing skills you posses. And your subjects are usually very attractive and photogenic people.
I think these images would be even nicer if his expression wasn't excatly the same in every shot.
My goal (and this can be very hard to accomplish sometimes!) is to get a variety of looks from people as I move them from place to place in a shoot. Otherwise, we are just shooting the same thing over and over in a different setting so the image becomes more about the setting and technical quality of the photo than it is about them.

He's a teen...he REFUSES to give me a smile for pics. Flat out refuses. In fact, he usually refuses to even let me aim my camera at him...even this involved some heavy bribery. This was the best compromise I could get out of him. lol

Wow Lisa ... your f1.2 images are simply stunning and they inspire me to be more bold with my 85L II. All this time I have avoided shooting wide open as I dislike having just one eye or half an eye in focus, but you have clearly demonstrated that f1.2 is very doable ... even with lowly 5D II. I am still a little skeptical about shooting at f1.2 with the 5D II only because the outer AF points suck and you cannot successfully apply the focus-and-recompose technique when you have ultra-shallow DOF. I think the 85L will rock with the 5D III so I can't wait to use this lens when I get my 5D III ... hopefully this Fall. Meanwhile I guess I can start honing my "f1.2 focussing" skills with my 5D II. Thanks for sharing these beautiful images.

Thanks everyone! I usually prefer the 70-200 when I'm back lighting especially because I don't have problems with chromatic aberration with that lens. When you are shooting an area of high contrast (back lit hair next to a darker background for example) you will definitely get the CA with the 85L unless you close down significantly. When you do that, you really lose that great bokeh the lens is otherwise capable of. In that case, I'd choose the 70-200L because I can still shoot wide open at 200mm (granted, I'm a football field away from my subject but that isn't always bad) without getting any CA in my images.
