I bought mine (replacing my much-loved 5D2) principally for the better autofocus and higher burst rate, hoping it would be the "one body" so I wouldn't have to take the 7D along any time there might be wildlife.
Went on a little getaway with the love of my life last weekend, and we surprised a couple of huge birds sharing some roadkill.
The camera proved itself, with fast, accurate autofocus and high burst rate (eagle photos all taken within a second of each other; birds so close it required significant focus changes to keep up, and the camera did just fine).
Rather than repost, I'll just link to the FM thread:
I'm quite pleased with this purchase. The camera's not all we might hope it would be (principal shortcoming is dynamic range), but it's a very, very fine tool.
StarNut - excellent photographs. The turkey vulture must get a real 'ugly' complex when in company with the magnificent bald eagle.
I sold a 1D3 I had bought 2nd hand about 15 months ago, to move to the 5D3, for the same rationale as you. I shoot a lot of motorcycle sport about twice a year and airshows also. I would shoot wildlife but my longest lens is 300mm, so that limits it somewhat in general.

I will say that I find the long exposure / high ISO prowess of the 5D3 seems to be quite overstated in my opinion. This one from yesterday...
i'm surprised you got that much banding on the last one, i thought 5d3 was pretty free of high iso banding through 25,600

Heh, and people are bitching about banding at 100! Yeah I found anything above 6400 to be pretty sad. Even at 6400 actually. Oh well, if I contrast it to my 1Ds back a decade ago, we've come a good way. It should be also duly noted that that last shot was a bit pushed.

I'll need to check my high ISOs more but in the quick 6400-25,600 test I did I was happy to see no banding at all on the 5D3 unlike the 5D2 so seeing all that in your 5D3 shot was a surprise, perhaps the type of lighting?
(In lower ISO I sure see it, surprisingly even at ISO800 or 320 and 640 a super easy way to make it show is to use flash for macro on a white or bright subject and then even a notch of shadow raise and the background is banding city, luckily in those cases when the background is that lost it's all too hopeless to rescue anyway so it doesn't really practically matter in that case, but it is a quick way to demonstrate it with basically zero to very small shadow lifting).
Yeah, sure, I may not be from the North Country but I know me a moose when I sees one, enjoy, a big bull judging by the size of the antlers on this one:
2015 shots from a Lightroom search for Sigma 35mm f1.4 Art images - sold it and now regret it.
