Okay, since it seems the votes are for Hermit, here are all four shots I was able to get. There was no tail-bobbing, but then I was surprised that it stayed still long enough for me to get these shots.
That is a wonderful photo! This is a thrush. I think it is a Hermit. I can't tell that the tail is rusty color as it should be, but this can be deceptive in photos. He has a shorter tail and no eye ring, with very little color change on the cheeks, all lead me to Hermit... In the field watch for them to bob their tails. Classic sign of a Hermit. Normally the tail will be a distinct rusty-red and stand out from the browner back, but sometimes in a photo it can be hard to see this..
Tony it is a gorgeous photograph, congratulations. It is really hard to give a positive ID but assuming your location is around home it is most likely not a Gray Cheeked plus it appears on my monitor quite clearly to have an eye ring. It also apprears to have buff cheeks and a Gray /Brown back , if so then it is most likely a Swainson's Thrush.
As Redtail says there are also some indications that it might be a Hermit but I think the gray back colour suggests it is more likely a Swainson's . If you can remember the tail bobbing a lot then it is a Hermit. Hopefully someone can clarify .alan
