p.1 #1 · What ONE lens would make you consider a platform change ???
Following in the "wouldn't trade" theme ... what ONE lens would be reason for making a platform change ... or what ONE lens is the reason for staying on your current platform.
It could be a lens that you either currently don't have, or one that you have but is adapted/converted for your current platform and you'd consider making a platform change (even if you haven't done it yet).
For me, the 24L TS-E II is keeping me on Canon, while the 14-24 tugs me toward Nikon, but not quite hard enough, even with the uber-MP D800. Of course, the EF mount wins for ease/expense of adapting/converting.
Although, the thought of a D800 and a ZF 15 combo ... hmmm.

I'd love a 35-100/2 for full frame.
I somehow doubt that would be a practical lens, nor a very good one.
If a manufacturer brought out some f/2.0 primes and a medium format camera with rangefinder focusing, the option of movements and groundglass (obviously not with the f/2 primes) I would sell everything and switch.
I moved to Leica M for the lenses and they don't really lack anything except movements which I get with large format.

how could you combine movements and rangefinder focusing?
i don't really consider myself as having a system now. i have one oem lens that i don't particularly like and no lights. if somebody made a FF camera i liked that would make me switch, but all my lenses would come with me. currently only one FF camera works with all my slr lenses, but it is a nogo since it doesn't have liveview.
the 35 and 50 m luxes could make me switch, but again the camera stops me. i'm not a fan of the long mfd and the lack of ttl viewfinder is a nonstarter for me.
if somebody made a series of small, high quality, manual focus, f/2 primes i'd be interested i guess.
p.1 #8 · What ONE lens would make you consider a platform change ???
it would have to be 2 lenses for me...
a FF equiv 32-35mm f2 or faster
and
a FF equiv 58-60mm f2 or faster
the camera would have to be nex7 style (meaning: tilt screen, evf and popup flash)
lens sizes preferably not bigger then panny/leica 25mm f1.4
what i ask is very possible but no one wants to make it
wide angle is covered imo and i am happy enough with the nex 16mm+wide adapter as a 18mm equiv.
the nex7 and pen f 38/1.8 and 25/2.8 for me is the closest to that, so that is what i have, for now

if a manufacturer of 35mm/APS-C bodies offered a mirrorless camera with a built-in leaf shutter or electronic equivalent that gave me 1/1600th flash sync speed, i'd jump. it'ed have to be an optimal mount for alt lenses too.

For my Canon systems the one lens would probably be the Zeiss 35/1.4 Distagon (Rollei). As far as I know it can't easily be mounted on a Nikon system.
Why is that? I've seen claims that the CY version should top the 35/1.4 distagon series, ie over the ZE/ZFs etc (havent seen "proof" though). I thought the Rollei version the one with less good coating (HFT) and the triangular aperture/bokeh thing?
p.1 #12 · What ONE lens would make you consider a platform change ???
The Rollei is said to be sharper by a couple of people on FM and it's mainly used wide open anyway. I think that's the reasoning. The Contax version doesn't reach infinity on Nikon (with m42 Leitax mount), btw. With Sony you can come close, with a modified (thinner) adapter.
HFT shouldn't be inferior to T* -- Zeiss helped Rollei to develop their own implementation of that coating. The color balance is a bit different though, so it's a matter of taste.
p.1 #13 · What ONE lens would make you consider a platform change ???
I don't mind the lenses that much since there are plenty of good ones for many different formats and mounts. The only thing that could make me switch is a better (smaller) FF camera.

A modern version of the CZ 35-70/3.4 with separate zoom and focus rings. Or a similar world-class lens that's unbeatable out to the corners by f/5.6 to f/8 with good handling. A focal length range of 30-90 or 28-85 would be about perfect. The Sony/Zeiss ZA 24-70 f/2.8 comes pretty close, but I don't really need the wide apertures. The Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 also comes pretty close, with a little bit lighter weight. Neither are quite up the the quality of the 35-70, though, or at least my copies aren't. Something simliar in 50-135 would be awesome for stitched panoramics, too.
I realize that I'm in the minority of this forum for liking zooms. On the side of a mountain, or down in the canyons, you can't always move forwards and backwards, and carrying all the Zeiss primes gets heavy when backpacking.

if i had a noctilux, it'd be a no brainer to get an m9.

One lens can not make me stay or change platform. Even if I have 3 Canon lenses that probably would be impossible to replace with another brand. 800/5,6 IS--17 TSE--24 TSE
p.1 #17 · What ONE lens would make you consider a platform change ???
I'm very content with my DSLR and lenses, so it would take more than a single lens to move me there. And the Hassy is much more about the camera and film than about specific lenses. But, as much as I love using the NEX-7, if Leica came out with a competitor for the NEX/X-Pro and released a Summicron 24 ASPH and/or an APO Summicron or Elmarit 60 macro specific to its mount, the 7 would be in trouble.

The 24 TSEII is the only thing keeping me tethered to Canon. (I do think the 17TSE is fantastic and a nice bonus, although I could live without it since I find practical use for it is limited).
If Nikon updated their 24mm PC-E lens to be as good as Canon's (which I think is doubtful since they already just updated it a few years back) I'd be in D800 land. I also keep wishing for Zeiss to make a 24mm shift lens which could be used on a Nikon. Or a Sony even.

T I L T ! !
I prefer to look it in a more holistic sense (i.e. I also own a Fujifilm X-Pro 1)
The grass is always greener on the other side, especially when something new and fantastic comes out "over there". I think that many of the more reactive contributors on FM and other sites are actually smoking it, the grass that is...
If you can't make do with any reasonable combination of current front-line bodies and lenses from a wide variety of brands (not only Canon and Nikon), then you're not paying attention to what you're doing.

Are you aware of the CY 28-85? Yep it's huge but IQ wise it rivals the 35-70 and have those extra precious mm's below. But then again, you may mean modern and these share the same pump-action dust-sucking mechanism as the 35-70.

Aham, thanks for the clarification. I've seen Rolleis offered for ridiculous prices so I guess you're on the right track.
