Ideally it would have been best to return the owlet to the original nest but it was in bad shape. Next, if bird was a little older just returning it to the nest tree but the tree is an old Eucalyptus with slick bark and not much for the young bird to cling to. After trying and failing to find a spot in another nearby tree, we opted for the wicker basket approach and it seems to be working.

I've already been chastised by hawk lovers and cat owners I must admit, I had an ulterior motive. I was hoping to get some photos of the goofy antics of a branching owlet. I thought the adults owed me for having eaten the hawks whose nest they had confiscated.
