I just had the time of my life testing out two incredible new cameras, the Canon 5D Mark III and the Nikon D800. I took them to Yosemite and Mono Lake for a little over a week and would like to share with you my personal review.
Hope you enjoy it!
The low iso dynamic range from the d800 is stagerring. The extra resolution looks like it will make a difference at larger prints. The D800 looks like a landscape photographers dream camera.

We can wait another 3 years and hopefully canon has something BIG to compete with $1500 D800 used. Fred's report is the most reliable source you can find on the net. Beside, 3 years is a long long long long time for people our ages....D800E is on my Xmas list this year.
How dare you say anything except absolute praise for the 5d3...why haven't all the Canon fanatics threatened to burn you alive? Spose because you could ban them all from the forum ;\
Fred, thanks for taking the time and putting forth the effort in providing this balanced and useful writeup. Any plans for a similar discourse when the 1D-X is released?
Holy better than Ansel Adams' pictures Batman! ;-)
As others have said, gorgeous pictures.
I'm blown away by the noise difference when boosting the shadows at ISO100. While I'm a Canon shooter, I'm not "religious" about it ... but can't help but think something weird is going on for that much of a difference - is LR itself screwing up by chance(?) BTW, I didn't see any mention in the text of what you used to boost the shadows.
Nice Moire comparison - be interesting to see how the Nikon800E does with this test.
The big "gotcha" on the Nikon was the Live View ... but can't help but think that might be fixable in firmware perhaps. And once they refresh their lens lineup, your writeup suggests that Canon just gets clobbered in the Landscape department.
